Best Scanning tools for virus/malware

AFTER an infection? The best practice, especially in ANY business environment is to wipe and reload. Too many variables to account for to say that the machine is still NOT infected after a scan. Do you want to find out after you've scanned a machine and not found anything that the minute you put it back on your network you wind up with another infection?

For the home user, it's a different situation. If you're lucky and have stuff backed up elsewhere, then wipe and reload. Again, safety. If they don't have a backup (which more often than not is the case), then first thing to do is tell them you cannot guarantee the infection is gone just from scanning the machine. But post-infection, I'm a fan of MWB, whatever they have installed for an A/V, Ccleaner, plus a few of the others mentioned. All of these are done while in Safe Mode.
